ABT Seat Leon (2002)

ABT Seat Leon (2002)
The ABTY Seat Leon is a dynamic, sporty vehicle and a real head-turner. That makes it a great challenge for us here at Abt to demonstrate what we mean by high quality customizing", says Hans-Jurgen Abt about his stylists' and engineers' philosophy when they worked on the Seat premiere. Engine, exhaust, bodywork, suspension, wheels, accessories, and interior - the Abt specialists' typical signature can be seen in all components of the agile 4WD.Classical customizing begins with an increase in engine performance. For the Abt Leon the engine experts at Abt were not prepared to compromise. Instead of the standard 132 kW (180 hp) they gave the all-wheel-drive Leon a boost to 191 kW (260 hp), generated by an Abt turbo-charger. The exhaust manifold, the silencer, and the charge-air cooler display the logo of the world famous customizer from Bavaria. The Abt brakes kit with steel-braided brake linings, for reduced fading and an improved response of the brake pedal, round up the customizing of suspension and transmission. The racing professional from the German Touring Car Masters (DTM) himself fine-tuned the Leon with a height adjustable sport suspension. It can be lowered by up to 50 millimetres, with the rebound and response of the shock absorbers able to be adjusted to suit individual driving styles.

Volkswagen Releases New Small Family in Slovakia

The FINANCIAL -- Europe's largest carmaker, Volkswagen, has set its course for the future. Yesterday, a decision on the production location for the future New Small Family was taken.

VW Up! and Space-Up! Concepts - Carscoop"Our team at Volkswagen in Slovakia is ideally prepared to provide the flexibility required for the production of the New Small Family. Four brands are already produced successfully under one roof at our plant in Bratislava today," said Professor Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft.

This investment is certainly a leap of faith in favor of Volkswagen Slovakia. VW SK company rep Andreas Tostmann said, "I'm happy about the confidence that has been shown in the Slovak plant." TASR quoted him as saying, "We're well equipped to produce such progressive vehicles as new small family cars thanks to our qualified and motivated workers."

The first study of these economical city cars made its world debut at the 62nd International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt in 2007. The second version with its smart space concept followed only a few weeks later at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show. 20 months after the presentation of the first study, Volkswagen has now laid the foundations for the production of the future New Small Family.

Presumably, these New Small Family cars are based on the Volkswagen up! concepts. The plant will initially be responsible for building new three-door and five-door models for Volkswagen, Seat, and Skoda, according to a press release. These cars should be available for purchase by 2011.

SEAT unveils new Twin Drive Leon prototype hybrid

The SEAT Leon Ecomotive was a Leon that had been picked over and removed of many inefficiencies in order to deliver a frugal 3.7 liters/100 kilometers (63 miles-per-gallon) as well as lower CO2 emissions. The SEAT Twin Drive Leon Prototype takes that idea a giant leap further by making the car a plug-in hybrid, adding a 35kW electric engine to the car that handles all of the motivation on the urban cycle.

Almost all of the car's running gear was massaged in the drive to become a hybrid. A lithium-ion battery pack powers the electric motor, and it is said to propel the car to a range of 50 km and a maximum speed of 100 km (62 miles-per-hour). For the moment, the 1.9-liter TDI engine remains to handle extra-urban duties. However, SEAT is looking at completely phasing out the internal combustion engine on future Ecomotive models.

Spain's Minister of Industry wants one million hybrids on Spanish roads by 2014, which is when the Twin Drive could make its appearance in showrooms.

Seat Exeo First Video & Photos

The new(ish) Seat Exeo sedan was unveiled in the presence of the world's media for the first time last week at the Paris Motor Show. It is based on the previous generation Audi A4 platform which began life back in 2001, meaning this is little more than a re-badged model. However we shouldn't forget the 2001 Audi A4 played a strong role in bringing the premium brand to where it is today and it would be premature to say the same platform couldn't help Seat make similar strides in the industry.

Pricing will start in the region of €22,000 for the base Reference trim level, there will also be Stylance and Sport trim levels available but specifications and equipment details are yet to be released. What has been released however is this new video showing a little driving footage of the new Seat Exeo along with a short exert of beauty footage.

At launch there will be a choice of six engines, all of which meet the strict Euro-5 emissions standards. Three pretol engines bless the Exeo with power output ranging from 102HP (75kW) to 200HP(147 kW), the remaining diesel options generate between 120hp (88kW) and 170HP (123kW).

Seat Leon Facelift Spied

Although the heavy camouflage might suggest that this is the all-new third generation Seat Leon, it's actually the mid-cycle facelift of the Spanish mid-class hatch, likely to make its debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. Given the fact that the Leon was released only in 2005, we don’t expect the new model to arrive before 2012.

While the car’s flanks won’t be retouched, there will be some slight modifications to the taillights and rear bumper – plus a drastic makeover at the front. The latter will bring the car into line with the all-new Exeo, which is set to debut in Paris next week. Engine-wise we expect the same four-cylinder petrol units delivering between 102 and 240 hp plus the well-known diesel engines with 105, 140 and 170 hp.

Benzs.blogspot_JE Design Makes Fifth Seat Leon Body Kit

The body kit consists of a front bumper fascia with new LED daylight running lights, grille, headlamp lens strips, side skirts and newly designed rear bumper fascia skirt attachment which accommodates four 90mm exhaust pipes.

VW Group tuning specialists JE Design have gone ahead and developed a fourth, no wait, fifth aerodynamics body package for the Seat Leon. Still closely resembling the base Leon P1 kit (non-Cupra, FR & wide body), the German tuning expert now offers a carbon fiber look adhesive film in various colors.

New 19-inch multispoke wheel-set, 4-piston brakes and coilover suspension capable of lowering ride height from 35mm to a ground scraping 65 mm round out the package. See press release below for full details.

Under the hood, JE Design is offering a new power increase via engine management upgrade that bounces the standard 103 kW (140 hp) up to 130 kW (176 hp). Torque also increases by 85 Nm to 405 Nm.

benzs-Seat Ibiza ECOMOTIVE Headed for Paris

The ECOMOTIVE will be available in both the SportCoupe (three-door) and five-door versions, it features an 80hp 1.4 TDI engine fitted with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) which not only helps the afore mentioned emission levels but also reduces fuel consumption as well. The ECOMOTIVE also benefits from slight modifications to the gear ratios, a set of new 14 inch wheels and similar to the previous generation, a weight saving measure that removes the spare tyre and replaces it with an antipuncture kit. Aerodynamic modifications also help contribute to the low fuel consumption with a new closed front grille and rear spoiler.

Last week we revealed to you the first images and details of the top of the range Seat Ibiza CUPRA, now at the other end of the green spectrum we can now reveal the Ibiza ECOMOTIVE. The model will offer the lowest emissions in its segment with a figure of just 99g/km blowing much of its competition away.

Full fuel consumption figures are yet to be announced, we are likely to have to wait until its full unveiling at the Paris Motor Show alongside the CUPRA model.

2009 Seat Ibiza CUPRA Images Released

The “Arrow Design” concept seen throughout the Ibiza range continues to inspire the model, the designers have remodelled the front bumper to incorporate the extra air intakes that surround the grille and clearly contributes to its added aggression. The rear end bumper also fails to escape the wrath of the engineers with a centrally mounted exhaust pipe that is surrounded by a wind controlling rear diffuser. The look is completed with a set of 17 inch alloy wheel and twin chrome headlights. Inside the vehicle but hidden from us in these initial pictures are CUPRA sports seats, aluminium pedals and an “easy entry” system on the passenger seat.

Today is the day we present to you the reason behind the awesome Bocanegra Concept, today we present to you the first images and details of the Ibiza CUPRA model. It is powered by a brand new 1.4 TSI twin-turbo engine that generates 180 horsepower and it is mated to the 7 speed DSC gearbox which similarly features in its Sport-Coupe sibling.

No further details have been released yet, but expect to hear more closer to the models debut at the Paris Motor Show in October.

The brand new 1.4 TSI twin-turbo engine continues Seat's tradition to care for the environment with reduced CO2 emissions, its low displacement is testament to this fact. A bunch of upgraded systems add to the overall driving experience, these include TCS (Traction Control System), EBA (Emergency Brake Assistance), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and a CUPRA Suspension system

New Seat Ibiza Revealed

All new from the wheels up, the fourth generation Seat Ibiza is the work of ex-Lamborghini stylist Luc Donckerwolke. Seat sees the new Ibiza as the most important new model in its recent history. The new Seat Ibiza will kick off Seat's product offensive, among which further Ibiza variants and the long awaited new upper-medium segment saloon and estate based on the previous generation Audi A4.

The new Seat Ibiza hopes to reinforce its position as a leader in the supermini segment with a bigger and better new generation model. The five-door hatchback comes with 'big-car' options like seven-speed DSG automatic/sequential manual gearbox, Hill Hold Assist and front fog lights with side illumination function.

The new Ibiza has grown in size and now measures 4.05 meters in length (versus 3.97 meters previously) with a 292 liter boot space with the rear seats in place. Width has grown too, thanks to its Agile Chassis the front and rear tracks are 30 mm and 33 mm wider respectively.

The front wheel drive car comes with a choice of 1.2 liter three cylinder 70hp petrol engine, 1.4 liter four cylinder 85 hp petrol engine or 1.6 liter four cylinder petrol engine producing 102 hp. All three engines are paired with a 5 speed manual gearbox. Seat has established itself in the diesel market and will in due course offer its sporty diesel engines on its supermini too.

Seat UK Peter Wyhinny commented: “The debut of the spectacular new Ibiza is the clearest sign yet that SEAT is serious about putting enviable quality and state-of-the-art technology alongside sporting ‘auto emoción’ as the cornerstones of the Brand. With the debut of this distinctive and clearly design-led five-door we are embarking on a major development of the SEAT range, with plenty more to come in the months ahead!”

New Entry Level Seat Altea Freetrack

Powered by 140 hp 2.0 TDI

Seat has today announced that it will extend the Seat Altea Freetrack model range with a entry level model powered by a 2.0 TDI engine. The new 140hp 2.0 TDI version is available in both 4WD and front-wheel-drive and delivers some decent performance, like a top speed of 193 km/h, 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 10.2 seconds and completes a 1,000 m dash in 32 seconds while consuming just 6.5 liters per 100 km/h on a combined cycle.

The four-wheel-drive system is a part-time one using a Haldex-type clutch arrangement. This means that the Altea Freetrack under normal road conditions uses only the front wheels, but if circumstances demand it, up to 50% of torque can be sent to the rear axle.

The 140 hp 2।0 TDI joins the 170 hp 2.0 TDI and 200 hp TFSI in the engine line-up. The Seat Altea Freetrack is the Spanish marque's first all-road vehicle and is based on the Seat Altea XL. The Altea Freetrack went on sale last summer after its Barcelona show debut in June.

Top-notch safety

The Altea freetrack is equipped with the latest safety elements for peace of mind travelling alone or with the whole family.

The freetrack features six airbags as standard across the entire range (driver, passenger, side and head airbags) and two more can be added to cushion the rear sides without hindering the possibility of sliding the rear seat for increased cargo. The rear seats are also fitted with Isofix anchoring points for child seats.

The car also includes all the usual electronic active safety systems: ABS, TCS and ESP + DSR with EBA and tyre pressure warning.

The TCS traction control intervenes in the engine management to prevent the wheels from spinning when accelerating on slippery surfaces while the ESP (Electronic Stability Program) teams up with the Driving Steering Recommendation (DSR) system, which detects the quality of braking at each axle and takes corrective action by transmitting a small impulse to the steering wheel to keep the vehicle on the correct course. EBA (Emergency Brake Assistance) can also come to the driver's aid by boosting the brake pressure during an emergency stop.

The ESP system fitted to the freetrack also incorporates TSP (Trailer Stability Program), which is specifically designed to enhance vehicle safety when towing. TSP helps stabilise a trailer when towing in bad weather, on a poor road surface or under emergency braking.

The chassis structure itself is yet another safety feature, and the freetrack's has been developed as a protective cell. In the event of an impact, the areas of programmed deformation have been well-studied to provide maximum energy absorption and the highest level of passenger protection.

New latest generation SEAT Mediasystem navigator

Technology is clearly at the heart of this vehicle, thus the latest Altea freetrack features the sophisticated new SEAT Mediasystem navigator as an option. Many significant improvements have been made to previous navigation equipment, and the new Mediasystem integrates numerous extra functions.

The system includes DVD mapping information featuring no less than 28 Western European countries, a 6.5" colour touch screen with VGA (800 x 400) resolution and a 30 Gb internal hard disk, to slash route planning calculation times.

Manufactured by Siemens, and with Navteq mapping, the SEAT Mediasystem includes several other non-navigation facilities that improve communication and deliver stereo sound quality. One of its highlights is sound adjustment - it optimises sound according to the volume and shape of each model's passenger compartment.

With the new Mediasystem, the SEAT Technical Centre in Martorell has furnished all current and future audio and video needs by developing a system that responds to new uses and available technology.

On-board entertainment can be enhanced still further via an innovative, optional, 7" TFT screen multimedia system. The screen folds down from the car's roof lining, and the system includes an RCA connection to plug in DVD players, video games consoles, laptops and MP3 players, with sound played through the car's own sound system.
Generous standard equipment

The SEAT Altea freetrack features a broad range of standard equipment including fog lamps front and rear, electric heated door mirrors, twin chrome tailpipe, roof rails, dual zone climate control air conditioning, height and reach adjustable steering wheel, leather steering wheel and gearknob, one-touch electric front windows with anti-trap function, rain sensing windscreen wipers, cruise control, trip computer, 'coming home' headlight function, CD/MP3 stereo radio with steering wheel controls and AUX-in connection, remote controlled central locking, electromechanical power steering, front and side airbags with front passenger airbag deactivation, Isofix child seat anchoring points, height adjustable front seats with lumbar control, tyre pressure monitoring and 225/50 tyres on 17-inch alloy rims.

The range of optional extras includes tempting choices such as the new generation navigation system with 6.5 inch touch screen, DVD player and 30 Gb hard disk, Bluetooth connection with steering wheel controls, heated front seats, Bi-xenon headlights and AFS, rear privacy glass, rear side airbags and more.

The SEAT Altea freetrack 4WD equipped with the efficient 140 hp 2.0 TDI engine guarantees on and off-road driving satisfaction. Whatever the destination, its gripping traction, performance, low fuel consumption and stability on any type of terrain make driving it a real pleasure.
